S"onya was born on November 12, 1935 in Wingate, Taylor County, Texas to Latayne Kendrick Ragsdale and the late Loy H. Ragsdale. She was raised in Abilene where she graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. She continued her education at San Jacinto College graduating in 1973. Sonya married Gary Wayne Berry in Abilene, Texas in 1954 and they celebrated 36 years of marriage. Gary preceded her in death in 1990. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a resident of Deer Park for 35 years. Sonya was a legal and an oil and gas secretary and worked in civil service at Dyess Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She retired in 1991.
