Frances was only 8 years old when her father suddenly died in 1918. She is found in the 1920 U.S. Census living with her fraternal uncle, John E. Hays, and his family in Moreau, Morgan County, Missouri. (John Edwin lost his first wife, Flora, in 1916. She was the mother of his only child; a daughter, Vivian. Vivian and Frances were about the same age.)
Around 1929, Frances married George B. Barrett. They had one son, Harry George Barrett. Frances succumbed to cancer at age 51.
