Residence: Howard Township, Story County, Iowa. Born "Jonas Jonassen Moe" on 16 Oct 1824 at Skånevik, Hordaland, Norway, son of Jonas Duva and Gunilde Sjursdatter Mosnes.

His father died 4 Dec 1824, and the family moved to Etna, Hordaland. He came to America on "Harmonie", which sailed from Stavanger, Rogaland, on 13 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 3 Jul 1849. He came to Grundy County, Illinois.

There he was married, on 3 Dec 1852, to Martha Rasmusdatter Skjeldal (1833-1890). He, his wife, and daughter, Julia, moved to Story County, Iowa, in 1856.

Civil War:
Age 37. Enlisted 12 Aug 1862 as Corporal.
Mustered 3 Sep 1862.
Promoted to Sergeant 1 May 1864;
to First Sergeant 5 Mar 1865.
Mustered out 24 Aug 1865, Clinton, Iowa.

Post war: Lived at Roland, Story County.
He married Henriette W. Henryson on 14 Jun 1894. He died 14 Jul 1910.
