Robert E. Gartner, 65, Arcadia, Kan., Route 1, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, Kan., after a long illness. He was the brother of Aletha Bell, Anderson. Mr. Gartner was born March 20, 1925, at Shady Point, Okla. He moved to Arcadia about six years ago from the Kansas City, Mo., area. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad and the Chicago Northwest Railroad as a crew foreman and switchman. He married Beatrice Hewitt on July 5, 1948, at Kansas City, Mo. She survives. Additional survivors include a son, Ronnie Robert Gartner, San Francisco; a daughter, Terry Linda Gartner, Arcadia; a brother, Les Gartner, Raytown; two sisters, Helen Neal, Shady Point and Hazel Miller, Kansas City, Mo.; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson. The Rev. Dean Royce will officiate. Burial will be in Peace Valley Cemetery, Anderson.
