Lucius was born March 28, 1846 - Census shows him born in WI and IN, Civil War papers show Gofer & Gopher County, MI, 1890 Veterans Census shows Mich and his obit shows native of Wisconsin.

Lucius was on the 1850 Census as Lucius Morison and was living with his Grandfather Enos Baker. On the 1860 Census he was Lucius L. Hays living with Samuel & Melissa (Baker)Hays. I believe he was the son of Melissa Baker's sister Philantha Baker who married a Joel Morrison but have not been able to find proof. A male descendant of Lucius, William C. Hayes Jr., DNA has several close Clan Morrison matches but no Hayes matches.

He married Caroline O. Scott Jan. 1st, 1866 in Albion, Erie, PA according to his Civil War pension file. Caroline O. (Scott) Hayes - Civil War Widows pension 560402, Sept 23, 1892; Caroline born Jan. 27, 1848, Albion, Erie, PA and died Nov. 25, 1910, St. Louis, MO

Left PA in 1879 for Stafford, KS. He was on the Stafford, KS 1880 census. Probably was in Hutchinson, Reno, KS with Samuel and Melissa Hayes and left there in the late 1880's for AR.

Owned 80 acres in Saline Co., AR. Real Estate assessment for 1887 filed 5 May 1887, Part 3, page 25 as L. L. Hayes, Sec 31, Twp 1S, Range 13W, 80 acres.

According to his Civil War Pension papers he was in Bismarck, MO in 1888. His Civil War Pension gives birth place as Gofer & Gopher County, MI [have not been able to find gofer/Gopher in MI] I believe he was born on the way to Lee County, IL.

The 1890 veterans enumeration for St. Francois, MO shows - Hayes, Lucius, Mich.

Obit in Carlinville Democrat Sept. 8, 1892:

L. L. Hayes died last Friday night, funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 p. m. and the remains interred in the Kirby cemetery. Mr. Hayes was a native of Wisconsin, a resident for various periods in Pennsylvania, Kansas, Arkansas and lastly of Chesterfield. He died at the age of forty-six years, leaving a wife and eight children to mourn his loss. Having faithfully served his country for three years in the late war and being a member of the G. A. R., the organization named directed the obsequies, the address being delivered by Rev. Young in the M. E. Church, of which Mr. Hayes had for many years been an earnest member. Public sympathy is with the bereaved family.

Also in the same paper - Mr. Jesse Hayes, of St. Louis, attended the funeral of his father, L. L., here on last Sabbath.
