Gerald R. "Jerry" Bruni, age 79, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., formerly of Edgerton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.

Jerry was born July 9, 1932, in Monroe, to Edwin "Pat" and Roberta (Steinman) Bruni. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1950, attended college and graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science. He was licensed as a funeral director and embalmer by the state of Wisconsin in 1954. He also holds a license from the Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board of the United States Inc. He owned and operated the Bruni Funeral Home in Edgerton. Jerry was a past president of Edgerton Rotary-Police and Fire Commission, Edgerton Jaycees, St. John's Lutheran Church. He was also secretary/treasurer of the Edgerton Bowling League for 15 years. A member of the Edgerton Chamber, Edgerton Volunteer Fire Department, active in bowling and softball.

He was married to Mary Knebel in Platteville in 1953, the mother of his children. He was married to Virginia A. Halvorson April 15, 1982, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Jerry was active in the Boy Scouts, having taught them beading and art work and also Indian dancing, having performed with them in the Milwaukee Auditorium. He was also an Eagle Scout with two psalms and a member of Order of the Arrow. They moved to Hot Springs Village in 1984. He was a past president of HSV Rotary Club and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church serving on the Columbarium Commission and also on the Endowment Commission. He and his wife Ginny owned and operated A Liquor World for more than 18 years, before retiring in 2000.

He is survived by daughter, Kathleen Hanson of Janesville; two sons, David of Edgerton, and Philip (Connie) of Fort Atkinson; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Debora Burkheimer of Fraser, Colo., Cheryl (Roger) Johnson of Juda, and Barbara Stuessy of Kenosha; four stepsons, Steve Eldred of HSV, Ark., Randall Eldred of Brooklyn, Gary Eldred of Janesville, and David Eldred of Monroe; 20 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Bruni of Waldo; a sister, Barbara Kloppel of Fond du Lac; and a brother-in-law, Thomas (Kris) Halvorson of Buffalo, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Bruni; and his second wife, Virginia Bruni; and son-in-law, Richard Hanson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, with pastor Carl Seeger officiating. Visitation times will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials can be given to Agrace Hospice.
