Edward A. Doolittle, 95, formerly of 303 W. Fifth St., and Maple Grove Road, Bemus Point, N.Y., passed away at 4:04 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 13, 2011), in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A resident of Jamestown, since 1937, he was born May 22, 1916, in Clymer, N.Y., the son of the late Arthur and Lauretta Hurst Doolittle.
In 1937, Ed rode into Jamestown, on an Indian Scout and continued to ride Harley Davidson's until he was 87 years old.
He started working as a mechanic for the former New Eagle Motors in 1937 and later became self-employed and was well known as the best "tune up" carburetor specialist in the area. There wasn't an engine or machine that Ed couldn't fix.
He was an active member of the Jamestown YMCA for 30 years and worked out regularly until January of this year. He was a past member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the AARP bowling and golf leagues.
Surviving are a son Edward A. Doolittle Jr. of Pasadena, Md., four daughters: Carol Doolittle of Jamestown, N.Y., Judy Johnson of Lancaster, Pa., Mary Pezzanite of Getzville, N.Y., and Wendy Doolittle of Jamestown, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, David Doolittle in 1969; a daughter, Donna Robinson in 1995; and two brothers: Milton and Howard Doolittle.
