Bishop Edward G. Hettinger, Saturday, December 28, 1996. Born October 14, 1902 in Lancaster, Oh., son of the late Edward and Clara O'Brien Hettinger.

Graduate of St. Mary Grade School and High School in Lancaster, Oh., Holy Cross College and St. Vincent Archabbey. Ordained to the priesthood June 2, 1928 by Bishop James J. Hartley, who would consecrate him as his auxiliary bishop on February 24, 1942.

Bishop Hettinger's first assignments as a priest were as chaplain at St. Vincent Orphanage and pastor of St. Margaret of Cortona Church for seventeen years. His second and last pastorate was at Sacred Heart Church, where he served for thirty-three years.

Preceded in death by a sister Gertrude; brothers Paul and Max Hettinger.

Survived by his sister, Joan Hettinger Leekley of Centreville, Va.; nieces and nephews, Edward Leekley of Centreville, Va., John Leekley of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Mary Ann Leekley of Methuen, Mass., Joan Regan of Boxford, Mass., Edward Hettinger of Marblehead, Mass., and Louis Hettinger of Reston, Va.; relatives and friends.
