St. George / Salt Lake City, Utah - Ronald Vern Cannon passed away January 7, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born to Ada Larson and Vernon Cannon on December 2, 1927 in St. George, Utah. Ron resided there until June 2009. After that time, he was lovingly cared for by family members in their homes. He truly loved St. George and was proud to call it home.
Ronald married Deloras Farnsworth in the St. George LDS Temple on May 29, 1947. They were blessed with four children. For many years, they owned Dixie Market in St. George. Ron retired from Dixie College maintenance department, having also served as president of the UPEA chapter at Dixie. Always a rancher at heart, he and Deloras loved the family ranch in Barclay, Nevada where they built and enjoyed a cabin.
Known for his friendly personality and sense of humor, Ron loved interacting with and serving others. He faithfully fulfilled callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as president of the Elders Quorum, Young Men and Sunday School; High Priest Group Leadership; ward clerk and as counselor in a bishopric. Ronald and Deloras also served as temple workers in the early years of their marriage.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Deloras; his parents; sister, Mildred Rosenbruch; and brothers, Marvin and Victor. He is survived by his children: Christine (Richard) Hicks of Las Vegas, Dr. Ronald Clay (Cherrie) of Riverton, Kent Cory (Stacie) of Lehi and Cari (Preston) Duncan of St. George; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
We love you, Dad and Grandpa! We are grateful for eternal families and look forward to the day we can be reunited with you.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George Main Street Chapel, 166 South Main Street, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Sunday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
