Commissioned as colonel of the Eighteenth Connecticut Regiment of Militia which was called to serve in 1776. He also was justice of the peace for 16 years and represented the town of Simsbury in the general assembly for 14 sessions.
He married, about 1733, Martha Humphrey daughter of Romas Humprey and Hannah Hillyer. She was born abt 1712 in Simsbury, CT and died in Simsbury 1796 Oct 7. Her father Romas was lifelong resident of Simsbury, born 1676 Sep and died 1714 Oct 23. He was the son of John Humphrey and Hannah Griffin. John Humphrey was born in Windsor, CT and died in Simsbury 1679.
Jonathan Pettibone lived in Simsbury, Connecticut. Served as a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. He became ill with a severe disease while stationed near New York City. Together with his son he started for home but died and was buried in Rye, New York (near White Plains). A stone was placed in Simsbury Cemetery by his widow, she died 1796 Oct 7 at age 85.

Jonathan Pettibone (1710–1776) of Simsbury, Conn., who had been colonel of the 18th Regiment of Connecticut militia since the spring of 1774, marched his men to New York during late August 1776 in company with Chapman’s regiment. Pettibone died on 26 Sept., the day after George Washington discharged his regiment.

Consider Holcomb (1741 - 1833) of Simsbury, Conn., served as a Private in Captain Samuel Hays (Hayes) Company, from August 22 to September 25, 1776, serving in New York.
Roger Sheldon (1758 - 1823) of Windsor, Conn., Private in Lieutenant Thomas Bidwell's Company. Served August 19 to September 25, 1776.
