An Old Confederate Dies. James Gant died at his home near Gurganus, Alabama, on August 28, 1901. The great battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia, in June 1864, Mr. Gant received a Yankee minie ball in his mouth and it came out his ear. It was hoped that he would eventually get over the wound, but he had bad spells with his head all along the pathway from Kennesaw Mountain to death. He married just after the war and five children blessed the union, living to be grown. His wife died and he remarried. The second wife and five small children survive him. He was a good industrious citizen.

The Yankee ball was 37 years in accomplishing his death. The burial took place at Fairview the 29th of August. The remains were borne to their last resting place by four Confederate soldiers escorted by a large assembly of people. He was a member of the Christian Church and was about 60 years of age at the time of his death. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community.
