Simeon, his wife Azubah, and two small children left New Jersey, traveling by ox-cart and boat. They arrived at the outskirts of what is now called Newark in 1806, and settled on the farm located on what is now Stuart Avenue. There, the couple raised their family of five children; James Y., Jacob C., Lydia and Stephen O. and Susan.

Simeon is the son of Samuel Bryant (1746-1805), and Lydia Craig (1748-1803), whose burial locations have not been found. Simeon's paternal grandparents are Simeon Bryant (1711-1784) and Hannah (Searing) Bryant (1718-1785).
