LORENZO H. WAITE DEAD
Lorenzo H. Waite died at 5 o'clock this morning at home, 28 Cottonwood Street, after a long illness.
L. H. Waite was born November 11, 1839, in Watertown, N.Y. Mr. Waite moved Illinois with his parents when a young man and August 28, 1861, he enlisted with Company H, 10th Illinois, Infantry, in DeKalb County. During the war Mr. Waite was in a Confederate prison at Saulsbury, N.C., and at Greenville, N.C., for 20 days. He was discharged from the service January 1, 1864. After his discharge, Mr, Waite returned to Illinois, and January 1, 1884, he was married to Miss Maggie Payne at Sugar Grove, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Waite moved to Kansas several years after their marriage, and settled on a farm in Cowley County. From there they moved to a farm in Sumner County e years ago they moved to Emporia. Mr. Waite was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, of the Modern Woodman Lodge and of the Preston B. Plumb Post, No. 55, G.A.R.
Mr. Waite is survived by Mrs. Waite, one daughter, Miss Bessie Waite, of Emporia; five sons, Dr. H. P. Waite, of Columbia, Mo.; Richard and Erwin Waite, of Emporia, and Earl Waite, a soldier, stationed at Sientsin, China, and Lyle Waite, of Los Angeles, Calif. He is also survived by a brother, P. M. Waite, of Aurora, Ill.
No funeral arrangements have been made.
