Harry F. Habel, 95, of Meyersdale died May 11, 1979 in Berlin. Born March 16, 1884 in Markleton, a son of the late William H. and Emma (Troutman) Habel.
Preceded in death by two wives, Lebenia Brown and Lucinda Mazer; a daughter, Emma Mankamyer; and a brother, John.
Survived by two children, Willam H. Jr. of Lancaster; and Althea, wife of Samuel Philson of Meyersdale; also seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Emma Rowe of Meyersdale.
He was a member of the Amity United Church of Christ where he served as Elder Emeritus. He was a retired telegraph operator of the B&O Railroad with 50 years of service. Served as administrator of the Meyersdale Community Hospital and on the Board of Directors, past president and life director of the Somerset County Fair Association, past master, Hillcrest Grange, past president of the Somerset County Agricultural Extension Association, director of the Second National Bank of Meyersdale, and served on the advisory committee of the Gallatin National Bank, past president of the Meyersdale Municipal Authority, member of all the Masonic bodies, member of the Berlin IOOF, director of the Union Cemetery Association, and member of the SAR.
Friends are being received at the Leckemby Funeral Home in Meyersdale where service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment, Union Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to the Amity United Church of Christ or Meyersdale Community Hospital.
