Richard Gilpin Buckingham was one of three children of Richard Gilpin & Sarah A. (Mote) Buckingham.

Note, there are and have been many Richard Gilpin Buckinghams. The origin of the Richard and Gilpin goes back to his great-grandparents: Richard Buckingham 1757-1841 and his wife Mary Rice Gilpin, 1775-1847. The Buckingham family can be traced back to William Buckingham [1635-1701] who arrived in PA in 1682.

Richard's siblings were Delsworth M. 1866-1951 and Mary E. 1875-1965, married John Leslie Eastburn.

Richard was a merchant and farmer. His residence for much of his life was Corner Ketch, DE.

Richard was the sixth generation to live in Corner Ketch, DE In 1927 he sold Rocky Hill Farm to S. Halleck DuPont and the family moved to Newark where he owned and operated a General Store on Main Street. In the mid-30's, the family moved back to Corner Ketch living at Fairview Farm, then owned by his father.

Richard was married twice. Elizabeth (Bessie) Owen [1870-1921], was his first wife and the mother of Brita and Elva. After Bessie died Richard married Anna B. Frame [1888-1977]. They had one child, Richard Gilpin Buckingham III, [1924-2003].

The Buckingham heritage was strongly researched by Richard's son Richard III.
