Fred A. Luebbert, 77, of West Point died June 1, 2005 at his home.
Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Public Wake services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church. GA or CC endowments, or St. Francis Hospice.
Fred was born May 6, 1928 on the family farm west of West Point in Cuming County to John and Elizabeth Hagedorn Luebbert. He attended schools at St. Anthony's Catholic School at St. Charles. On May 9, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey, he married Marcella Kreikemeier. The couple farmed, moving into West Point in 1963, where Fred worked as a maintenance man for St. Francis Hospital, Central Catholic High School and IBP. In his retirement years he drove residents for the West Point Living Center.
Fred was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. Fred was always very active and took on several roles including Chairman of the meals on wheels program. He enjoyed music, played the saxophone and sang in various church choirs. He received the Knights of Aksarben Good Neighbor award in 1994 and was a Pro-Life supporter. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was well known for his horseradish.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella, daughters Marlene (Tom H.) Knobbe of West Point, Sharon (Randy) Wegner of Humphrey, Diane (Osa) Hendricks of Omaha, son Gary (Mary) of Lincoln, sisters Wilma(Paul) Gentrup of West Point, Elsie (Marvin) Popken of Fremont, brother Bernard (Rita) of West Point, grandchildren Matt, Doug (Blayne), Sara, Katie and Megan Knobbe, Ben (Brooke), David and Daniel Wegner, Beth (Aaron) Riedmiller, Hillary and Caroline Hendricks, Ryan, Erin, and Phillip Luebbert and great grandchild Carsten Knobbe. He is preceded in death by a son Gerald in 1974, brothers Casper and Leo and sister Irene Luebbert.
