MRS. BROWN

Mrs. Brown, a lady who was widely known in religious circles in the city, died yesterday at her residence in Rathgar. The deceased lady was the widow of the late Mr. Hugh Brown, of Messrs Brown, Thomas, Grafton street, and was mother of the late Mr. Vere Ward Brown, J.P., of Palmerston Park, and also of Pastor Hugh D. Brown, M.A., of Harcourt Street Baptist Chapel, which building was erected in 1884 at her expense and has since been largely supported by her munificence.



Hugh Brown of the parish of St. Mary's, Dublin, and Mary Ann Riddle of the parish of St. Thomas, Dublin, were married at St. Thomas's Church, on 13th August 1844.
The witnesses were John Gray Beene and --?- Ward Riddle


in 1849, at the birth of their son Vere, the family were living at 7 Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin.


In the 1901 census, the Brown family were recorded at Zion Road, Rathgar, Dublin.
present were,
Hugh Dunlop Brown, aged 43, a barrister [not practising], a Baptist Minister, M.A., TCD, not married, born in Co. Dublin.
Mrs. Marianne Brown, his mother, aged 75, a widow, born in city of Dublin.
4 servants were also present, including Dorothy Graham, aged 32.


in the 1911 census, the Brown family were recorded as visitors at The Shelbourne Hotel, St. Stephen's Green, Dublin.
Hugh Dunlop Brown, aged 53, a Baptist Minister, born in County of Dublin.
His mother Marianne, aged 85, a widow, born in City of Dublin.
Dorothy Graham, aged 37, her maid, was also staying there.
