Cause of death: Kidney trouble
Occupation: Farming
Line #41, pg #52, Michigan Death 1867-1897
Mr. Wm. McMullen, for a number of years a resident of Atherley, died at Evart, Osceola County, Michigan, on the 28th of February, at the advanced age of 83. Mr. McMullen came from Castlecomer, Ireland, more than half a century ago, and after a short sojourn in West Gwillimbury, where he was burnt out, he came to Mara, then a wilderness, and settled on the farm now owned by Mr. John Allewell. He subsequently was postmaster and schoolmaster at Atherley. The surviving pioneers will read with sorrow of his death. At the time that St. John's church was built he was one of the most active members of the congregation. Twenty-five years ago he took his family to Michigan, and again began pioneer life in the heart of a dense wilderness. He was for years Town Clerk of Evart, and held other public positions. The funeral was the largest ever seen in that district, testifying to the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. His end was perfect peace, he having been for many years a consistent Christian. Only one daughter resides in this country, Mrs. Edward Bell, of Parry Sound. He never forgot his old friends in Mara, whom he had hoped to visit once more; but when the progress of his last illness manifestly precluded the possibility of this he sent his sincere regards to all, through his niece, Mrs. Goffatt, Orillia. Mrs. McMullen is still living.
In the files of Evart Historical Museum, apparently from Ontario, Canada, newspaper.
