Clara Gerhardt, 83, of Niota, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her home. She was born on January 2, 1929 in Dallas City Township, IL to Lloyd & Bertha Foresman Scanlan. She graduated from Dallas City High School in 1946 and married Ben William "Kap" Gerhardt on February 14, 1971 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She was a secretary at the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company, retiring in 1993. She was very talented with crafts, quilting, painting, counted cross stitch, sewing, cooking and enjoyed her computer and making cards for family & friends. She and "Kap" loved their prize winning horses and buggies and were very devoted to their grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Clara is survived by: 1-daughter: Lana (Tony) Herdrich of Dallas City, IL; 1-daughter in law: Penny (Stuart) Holmes of Denmark, IA; 5-grandchildren: Amy (Bill) Hoffman of Bartonville, IL, Sean (LaJuanah) Herdrich of Manchester, IA, Johana (Rob) Jerden of Fort Madison, IA, Jared (Fiance Tonya Beach) Wisbey of Fort Madison, IA & Jylayna (Joe) Hammill of Waterloo, IA; 5-great grandchildren: Kristina Herdrich of Manchester, IA; Mia & Donald Hoffman of Bartonville, IL, Kyle Wisbey of West Burlington, IA & Sylvia Jerden of Fort Madison, IA; 1-sister: Mary Gallahue of LaHarpe, IL; 1-brother: Donald (Dyna) Scanlan of Dallas City, IL; 1-sister in law: Darlene (Robert) Hartweg of Elvaston, IL; 1-brother in law: Gene Gerhardt of Niota, IL and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband & 1-son: Lynn Wisbey.
The burial will be held in the Appanoose Cemetery in rural Niota, IL.
