Belt Resident Dies in Falls After Stroke
I. Grover Abernathy, 82, a resident of the Belt area for 60 years, died Wednesday in a Great Falls convalescent hospital. He had suffered a stroke last November.
Abernathy was ranch foreman on the Harry Armstrong Ranch near Armington 23 years before it was sold in 1955. He moved into Belt and worked as a carpenter's helper for Jack Kessner, building contractor until he retired in 1967.
Born in Hiddenite, N. C., Abernathy came to Belt in 1915 and married Esther Kivi of Belt in 1920. He served in the Army in both World War I and II. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Belt and Veterans of World War I Barracks in Great Falls.
Survivors are the widow; daughters, Mrs. Alma Hunt, Tokyo, Japan, and Mrs. Margaret Jetchick, Kivonia, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
