Harry served as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class, YMS-409, U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland prior to the war and enlisted in the Navy on November 14, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Harry was declared "Missing In Action" in the Atlantic Ocean roughly 3 miles East of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina during what was called the "Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944" when the YMS-409, a 136-foot (41 m) long minesweeper, sunk during the storm.
A total of "33" sailors were believed to be on the YMS-409 and lost in the sinking !
