VERO BEACH, FL — Elizabeth (Boots) Antrim Thrower died December 15, 2011 in Vero Beach, FL.

Her life of love and service to friends, the earth, and all fellow creatures was celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2012.

She was born October 26, 1938 to Ruby Groome and Frank Antrim in Guilford County, NC. She graduated from Duke University in English where she was a member of PI BETA PHI sorority. For many years Boots was a member of the Sedgefield Hunt, Sedgefield Study Club, and Sedgefield Country Club.

While living in Nantucket she was the only female ever to be admitted to the Warf Rats and was a member for the Nantucket Yacht Club, and the Flower Club. In Florida she was a member of the Ocean Reef Club, the Club at Windsor in Vero Beach.

A dauntless worker for good, Boots provided leadership in whatever community she lived. She taught school in Greensboro, NC and served on the Advisory Board of the Duke Marine Laboratory. In Nantucket she was active in the National Land Conservancy, building her home contiguously with the Conservancy property. In Ocean Reef, Florida she became more involved in marine and Everglade preservation. In Vero Beach (Windsor), Florida she served on the board of the Indian River Land Trust and the Florida Nature Conservancy. Her contributions outnumber the ones briefly mentioned here. Her loss will be deeply felt.

Boots was preceded in death by her husband Edwin K. Thrower and her sister, Mary Catherine Moore

She is survived by her sister, Frances (Biddie) Mearns .
