Service: Conn Privateer. VA. No. 12734 No. S. 6806
Born Saybrook, Middlesex Co, Connecticut (CT) Feb 21 or 24 1763 and there resided until 1796 when he moved to Monongalia Co. VA. His grave is in the Dudley Cemetary near Farmington, Dunkard Mill Run, Marion Co, WV. (This part of Marion Co. WV was Monongalia Co. until 1842 and WV was Western District of Virginia until the Civil War.)
Dudley enlisted June 1778, Saybrook CT, in company commanded by Captain Shipman Lays and Ensign Doty Mead in the CT regiment, commanded by Colonels Selden, Bebee and Wells. He served 15 months, part of which was on the Sloop Sally as a privateer, under command of Captain Seth Warner, and on the Sloop Lively in 1781, commanded by Master Peck and Master Elisha Hunt. Pension was granted in monongalia Co. 1833.
Samuel was married to Mary Margaret "Peggy" McDougal in 1801. They had 10 children. Samuel also served his country in the War of 1812.

Excerpt--Youst Family-Mrs. Martha Evans Barrett, of Middlebourne, owns a Bible that was published in 1811 by Carlton Phillips and Z. Phillips of 200 Mulberry Street, New York City. It's first owners were Lemuel and Mary Dudley Youst. After their deaths it was passed on to a son, Emory D. Youst, who was an uncle of the present owner. The births listed in the book are as follow: Lemuel Youst, born March 5, 1810, in Marion county, WV; Mary Dudley Youst, born September 10, 1804, at Bethel, Marion Co., WV; Roanna Youst, born August 2, 1835, at Dunkard Run, Marion Co., WV; Margaret S. Youst, born March 25, 1837, at Dunkard Mill Run, Marion Co., WV; and Emory D. Youst, born September 26, 1837, at Dunkard Mill Run, Marion Co., WV.
