Mrs. Donald McLachlan, a pioneer of Chippewa Township, Mecosta county, died at her home on Thursday, April 28, from a chronic disorder of many years standing, but recently has caused her serious illness.
The funeral services were held Sunday from the South Evart Free Methodist church, Presiding Elder J. E. Sanders conducted the services. Deceased had a host of friends in the community in which she had lived during the past fifty years, and her remains were followed to Evart by fifty-four automobiles, where interment was made in Forest Hill cemetery.
Catherine White McLachlan was born in East Williams township, Ontario, Canada, November 10, 1846, died at her home in Chippewa township, Mecosta county, Michigan, April 28, 1821, at the age of 74 years, 5 months, and 18 days.
She was married to Donald McLachlan February 28, 1867. To this union eight children were born, seven to whom survive her, her youngest daughter, Betsey McDonald, preceding her in death a little over a year. The surviving children are: John W., Duncan M., James D., Hugh A., Margaret Osburn, Mary McCallum, Katie Carpenter, who with her husband, thirty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren mourn her loss.
She was converted August 5, 1878, and united with the Free Methodist church of which she was a faithful and devout member at the time of her death.
She and her husband moved from Canada to Michigan when there were no roads, only trails through the woods and many were the hardships these pioneers endured. They were a devoted couple through the fifty-four years of wedded life.
She was a kind, loving christian wife and mother and has gone to be with her Savior, whom she loved and trust to these many years.
