Neil B. Armantrout, 62, of Eugene, OR. died Dec. 29, 2003 of cardiac arrest. Born April 22, 1941, in Salt Lake City to Clo and Bonnie Robinson Armantrout. Graduated from Corvallis High School in 1959. Earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Oregon State University, in zoology, general science and fisheries biology, respectively. Served in the Peace Corps in Iran from 1965 to 1967, and worked a year for the Iranian Game and Fish Department. Taught at the University of Tabriz in Iran in 1973-74. Began career with the Bureau of Land Management in 1975 in Moab, UT. Moved to Portland in 1978 as state fisheries biologist and transferred to the Eugene BLM office in 1982. Made trips to India as technical adviser at Keoladeo National Park. Neil received awards, including Lane County's first Professional Federal Employee of the Year award in 1985. Served as president of American Fisheries Society's Western division, active in natural resources groups, and published extensively in his field. Interests include music, photography, gardening, traveling, genealogy, sports and cooking. Member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors: brothers, Guy of Potomac, MD, and George of Portland; sisters, Janet Armantrout of Livermore, CA, Bonnie Armantrout of Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, and Margret Armantrout of Salem.
