Jerry W. Burton was born on November 22, 1935, and passed away on January 6, 2012; Jerry Burton began working for the Richardson Police Department in 1960. He graduated from the first Richardson Police Academy, and served for 8 years with the Richardson Police Department. He left the department as a lieutenant and became the Chief of Police in Allen, Texas. After serving 6 years with the Allen Police Department, he was appointed Sheriff of Collin County by the Collin County Commissioner's Court, where he served as sheriff from September 1974, until December 31, 1980. He then served as Police Chief for the Frisco Police Department. In 1985, he ran for Constable, Precinct 4. After winning the election, he served as constable for 12 years at which time he retired in 1998. After a few years of retirement, he drove long distance for FedEx which was one of the highlights of his later years. The absolute reward of his life was his association with his family and the time he was able to serve the people of Collin County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Mayme Burton, four sisters and three brothers.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Ann Burton, six children Rita Fleetwood, Carol McCoy and her husband Ernie, Dennis Burton and his wife Mona, Laurie Goeken and her husband Bill, Randy Hancock and his wife Diane, Kristie Osborne and her husband Todd, grandchildren Tylor, Erin, Austin, E.J., Lucy, Rachael, Drew, Noah, Seth, Hannah, Maggie, Hunter, Laramie, Brianna and Kate, great grandchildren McKenzie, Zachary, Sydney, Zander, Haylee, Ashby, Preslee, Addison, Ty, Braydon, Caden and Ava.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, January 10, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas. A funeral service to honor Jerry's life will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Plano, 1300 E. 15th Street, Plano, Texas 75074. Jerry will be laid to rest at Cottage Hill Cemetery in Weston, Texas immediately following the service.
