William was the son of Eli and Hulda Colester Strickland. He married Saville Matilda Fosdick in Mentor, Lake Co, Ohio on Sept 14, 1841. They had 10 children together.

Died at the home of J. J. Woods in Woodland Township, Logan county, William Strickland, age 76 years and five months. He was affected with Brights disease. He passed away at 7 o'clock in the morning with his wife and son Eugene and his married daughter, daughter, Mrs. J. J. Woods at his bedside, beside numerous friends. He has suffered for several years from stomach and kidney trouble. The deceased was a kind husband and father. His remains were shipped to Kansas for burial at his old home, where other children live. We sympathize with the lonely wife and children.
