Leo Puffer, 87, died Friday, July 23, 2004, in Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Elma, after a long illness.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, by the Rev. Donald Hawes.

Burial: Lincoln Cemetery, Ridgeway.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Balik Funeral Home, Spillville, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and a rosary at 5 p.m.

He joined the army in January 1942. '42 found him on his way to the Philippines, then to Australia.

He was in the 19th, which was already overseas, when the war began. This was under General MacArthur's command.

Next New Guinea, and he took part in the Leyte landing.

He spent 39 months of his 42 months in the army on overseas duty.
