BIOGRAPHY UPDATED on 2 Apr 2022

Ezra Richard Hill was born on 17 May 1893 in Janesville, Cumberland County, Illinois. His parents were George J. and Mollie (Reed) Hill. He had 4 siblings; Ira Roscoe, Minor L, Arthur E & Clyde E.

In his early years he lived with his parents in Pleasant Grove Township in Coles County, Illinois. According to the 1900 United States Federal Census taken on 28 Jun 1900, they rented a home in Pleasant Grove Township, Coles, Illinois. At the time, Ezra wa 7 years old and lived with his parents Mollie Hill (25) and George J Hill (29) and his 3 siblings; Ira (5), Minor L (2) and Arthur (1). He lived with his parents in Coles County until around 1901 when they moved to Champaign, Illinois and lived at 204 Avondale Ave. After the death of his father in 1908, it appears they stayed in the area. According to the 1910 United States Federal Census taken on 16 Apr 1910, they owned a home at 204 Avondale Ave in Champaign Township, Champaign, Illinois. At the time, Ezra R was 16 years old and lived with his mother Mollie Hill (35) and his four siblings; Ira R (15), Minor L (13), Arthur E (12) and Clyde E (9).

He married Clara Ann Canaday on 7 May 1913 in Urbana, Champaign, Illinois. It appears he only had 1 child with Clara (Donald)who unfortunately died at the early age of 8 due to a falling accident in their Chicago Home. It appears shortly after his marriage to Clara in 1913, they moved just down the road from his mother and took up residence at 111 Avondale Ave. In 1917, his draft card indicates a residence in Mendota, Illinois which is about 105 miles NW of Champaign, Illinois. It is unclear if and when he actually moved to Mendota during this time, however, since he is not listed in the 1916 Champaign directory, they may have briefly lived in that city. In 1918, they are listed once again in the 1918 Champaign City directory at 304 Avondale Ave, but moved again by 1919 where they bought a house at 207 Stanage Ave. It is unclear why he was listed on both his residence at Stanage Ave as well as his Mother's residence in the 1920 US Census, however, the two residences are only a block apart and may have been visiting during the time of the census. In December, 1922, they relocated to Chicago to study at the Moody Bible Institute where they intended to enter into religious work. By 1923 they were living at 2351 Warren Ave in Chicago, Illinois. It is unclear how long they lived in Chicago, but by 1930 they had moved to Solon, Michigan where they rented a house. It is unknown when they moved to California, but it appears he lived there until his death in 1979.

According to the Champaign-Urbana City Directories, he has had several occupations over the years; Worked at the Miller Harness Company (1912), Rubber Vulvanizer (1917-1918), Tire Saleman, Auto/Tire Mechanic (1919), Driver for the Champaign Sanitary Milk Co. (1921) and Electrician (1922). After his move to Chicago in 1923 and in Michigan in 1930, he was listed as a Clergyman within a Baptist Church.

He passed away on 9 Apr 1979 in Santa Barbara, California. He was laid to rest on 12 Apr 1979 in Goleta Cemetery in Goleta, Santa Barbara County, California in Plot 5 East, Lot 147, Space 7.
