Mrs. Amy Shaw, 100, Northfield, died this morning, July 1, in Odd Fellows Home, Northfield. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday in Trinity Lutheran church, Northfield, with the Rev. Steven Delzer officiating. Burial will be in Groveland Cemetery, Dundas. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Bierman Funeral Home, Northfield. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Verna Eng of Northfield; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Shaw Amy Northfield News Jul/1987 Amy Shaw, who turned 100 years old last January, died July 1, 1987, at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home, where she was a resident. Amy Cheney was born Jan. 16, 1887, in rural Rice County to Theodore and Viola (Sprague) Cheney. She attended the Cheney school until her sister died and she had to drop out to help on the farm. She married Leslie Shaw on March 14, 1916, at the home of her parents. Her husband preceded her in death in 1955 and she moved to the Odd Fellows Home in 1959. Shaw was honored last January on her 100th birthday with a special party hosted at the home. She also received a special citation from President Ronald and Nancy Reagan. When asked what her secret to long life was she answered hard work and just plain grit. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by twin sons Lyle and Leonard. She is survived by her daughter, Viola Eng of Northfield and a daughter-in-law Zella Shaw of Wills Point, Texas; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held on July 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Steven H. Delzer officiating. Organist was Sarah Hawbecker and soloist was Darrell Hutton. Interment was in Groveland Cemetery, Dundas. Pallbearers were Joel Ross, Curtis Schmitz, Timothy Eng, Jerry Kes, Scott Schmitz and Keith Rahman. Arrangements were made by the Bierman Funeral Home.
