Civil War Confederate Veteran born in Williamson County TN. Was in 11th TN Cavalry of Gen. N.B. Forrest. Enlisted April 13, 1862 near Murfreesboro. Entered the army at age 16. Was discharged 5/10/1865 near Gainesville, AL. Parents owned about 125 slaves and 2,500 acres valued at about $200,000. Lived in a frame house with 6 rooms. My father had 2 farms in TN and 1 in Bolivar County, Miss. Had 3 house servants. Had 5-6 years of schooling. Father William Perkins Cannon born near Triune, Williamson County TN lived on a farm eight miles south of Franklin. Went to FL in the Seminole Indian War was shot in the leg at 77 years of age. Mother Agatha Susan Perkins her dad Samuel Perkins and Sally Perkins. My great grandfather Minos Cannon a revolutionary soldier came from NC and settled with family in Bedford and Williamson county near Triune his son Newton Cannon my grandfather was in the Creek Indian War. My grandfather was governor of state and a member of Congress one of two terms- all strong members of Whig party.
