Ethel Gerken, 89, of West Point died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at West Point Living Center.
Ethel Lundeen was born Aug. 25, 1911, in West Point. At the age of six months, she moved with her family to Boyd County, settling on their farm east of Spencer. She attended District 27 rural school through eighth grade. She graduated from Spencer High School and later from Midland College in Fremont, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She taught school for 32 years. She married Otto Johnson and lived in Oakland for many years. She married Herbert Gerken Nov. 27, 1968, in Lyons and they farmed west of West Point. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, west of West Point, and volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include; a brother, Walter Lundeen of Oakland. She was preceded in death by two husbands, a sister and a brother.
The funeral was at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in West Point. The Rev. Daniel DeGuzman officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Stalp Funeral Home in West Point was in charge of arrangements.
