August Frederick "Fred" Anderson was born in either Indiana or Illinois (there is conflicting info as to the exact location) to John August Anderson and Albertina J. "Tena" Sundback. Anderson. He was their second child. The family lived in Kankakee County, Illinois until about 1913 when they moved to South Dakota.
He married Lydia Rose Huebner on May 10, 1922 at Redfield, South Dakota. He farmed in Spink County for many years. Fred, Rose and their children also lived in Oklahoma for an unknown period of time. He was employed by the South Dakota State Highway Department from 1952 until he retired.
He was the father of one daughter and four sons, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
An infant son and two grandchildren preceded him death.
