Carl F. Kuester, 62, of 830 Oakland Ave., a nigh watchman at the C. Reiss Coal Co., died early this morning of a heart attack while on duty at the plant.
Two other company employees, Charles Wobig and Willard Rohde, found Kuester lying on the pavement next to a truck parked at the loading scale, when they came to work at 5:45 a.m. Dr. Reed M. Simpson, Sheboygan county coroner, called to the scene, stated that Kuester had suffered a heart attack some time earlier, probably around midnight.
Walter Tagge, 825 Humboldt Ave., another night watchman, said he had contacted Kuester earlier in the evening on one of his rounds but did not see or contact him after that.
Born near Hingham on Feb. 22, 1895, the son of Frederick and Ida Kuester, the family came to Sheboygan in 1901 and he attended St. Andrews parochial School. He served in World War I from Sept. 21, 1917, to Oct. 31, 1919, with Co. I, 47th Inf., and was wounded July 30, 1918, in France.
He was married to Miss Ida Greiner on Jan. 20, 1921, at the rectory of St. Peter Claver Church by the late Rev. J. P. Van Treeck. The couple always made their home here. He was a member of Jensen-Van Thruler Chapter No. 15 of the D.A.V., and had been employed by the C. Reiss Coal Co. for over 30 years, the last four as night watchman.
Survivors are his wife; seven children, Robert of Black River, Frederick of this city, George of Savannah, Ga., James in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, Edward, Thomas and Charlotte at home; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Herman and Hugo, both of Sheboygan; and two sisters, Mars. Henry Wolf of this city and Mrs. Albert Plautz of Edgerton, Wis. His parents, a son, a daughter, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ramm Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert M. Hoeller of St. Peter Claver Church officiating, and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Friday until the time of services.
