A native of Haywood County, Russell was the son of the late Harrison and Eva Campbell Burchfield. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wyatt. He was a millwright at Dayco for more than 38 years before his retirement. He was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iva Lee Hoyle Burchfield; a son, Larry David Burchfield; two daughters, Patricia Ann Tucker, of Waynesville and Brenda Browning and her husband, Bud, of Nebo, NC; a sister, Jean Mills, of Waynesville; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
