BORGERDING Herbert J., 86, of Arcadia, FL, died April 21, 2001. He was born in Cincinnati, OH and lived there for 85 years. He wintered in Arcadia, FL for the past 20 years and moved there permanently last summer. He was a retired Conductor for the Penn-Central Railroad with 45 years of faithful service and he was a 50 year member of the United Transportation Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European Theatre and was awarded four Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Cincinnati, OH. He was a member of the "Hawks', a remote controlled aircraft club in Cincinnati. He sang in a local band and he was a well known Square Dance caller, often donating his time to call dances for local school systems and charities supporting the physically and mentally handicapped. Mr. Borgerding is survived by his wife Mary, Arcadia, FL, one daughter Carol (Lyle) Tuthill and three grandchildren, Brussels, Belgium. He is pre-deceased by Alice E. Kahn Borgerding, his wife of 52 years. Memorial Mass will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sharonville, OH. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH. Donations may be made to the Hospice of SW Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia is in charge of arrangements.
