A FATAL RIDE
A Tallyho Containing Thirteen Couples
Wrecked at Mt. Pleasant
An accident occurred at Mt. Pleasant Friday night by which one lady was killed and four other persons injured. A party of thirteen couples of Mt. Pleasant young people started in a coach for Donegal.
On Main street the team became unmanageable and the driver lost control. The tallyho was upset against the curb. Miss Nettie Adams was thrown with great violence to the pavement and almost instantly killed.
The following were injured; Elmer Sheppard, three rigs broken, Will McNaughton, injured internally, Mary Fiacus, injured internally; Wash Bell, the driver, compound fracture of one leg. The other members of the party escaped unhurt.
Miss Nettie Adams was a daughter of Samuel Adams, residing near the Mud school house in Fayette county. She was 19 years old and was engaged to Elmer Sheppard who was injured in the accident. Miss Adams was employed in the glass works of Boyce Brothers in Mt. Pleasant. The funeral took place Sunday and was largely attended.
