Irene H. Geist was born to George and Katherine Peppler on December 20, 1921 in Fort Collins. She passed away August 23, 1997 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, at the age of 75.

Irene Geist was one of seven children. During her lifetime, she lived in Fort Collins, Ault for 17 years, Denver for five years and in Holyoke from 1951 until her death. She was united in marriage to John LeRoy "Jack" Geist on December 9, 1941 in Fort Collins. To this union were born two children, Janet Kay and Jack LeRoy.

Mrs. Geist served as Holyoke town treasurer and at the Holyoke town clerk's office for 19 years, retiring in 1977. After her retirement from her positions with the town of Holyoke, Irene worked part time at the Holyoke Enterprise until 1984. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Holyoke since 1951 and was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Irene will be remembered for her care and devotion to her husband of 55 years and to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by three sisters, Rachel and Elsie Peppler and Emma Rossi; and by her two brothers, Harold and Harvey Peppler.

Irene Helen Peppler Geist is survived by her husband, Jack Geist of Holyoke; her daughter, Janet Patton and her husband, James of Fort Collins; her son, Jack and his wife, Jacqueline, of Omaha; three grandsons, A.J. Patton and his wife, Stephanie, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Anthony John Geist, and Garret Allen Geist, both of Omaha, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Kimberley Marie Geist-Mays and her husband, Edward, of Omaha, Nebraska; and one sister, Esther Rodenberger of Fort Collins.

Memorial services for Irene H. Geist were held at the First Methodist Church of Holyoke on Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at 11 a.m. Private interment was held at Holyoke Memorial Park. Reverend Jack Pedotto officiated at the service.
