Mrs. Bernice C. Albers, 95, Blessing Long Term Care, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday (April 19, 2001) at the hospital.

Born May 23, 1906 in Quincy, Mrs. Albers was the daughter of Edward H. and Clara Hageman Hoener. She married Delbert L. Albers on March 9, 1929. He died November 30, 1985.

Mrs. Albers was a graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. She was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church of Christ, and was active in the Womens Guild, and the Church Choir.

Bernice was a qualified leadership trainer for Girl Scout Leaders, served as a Brownie Girl Scout leader for three years, and on the Girl Scout Board for six years. She received a ten year pin for service to Girl Scouting. She was a member of the Women's City Club, past president of Berrian School P.T.A. and past president of the Quincy City Council P.T.A.

Mrs. Albers worked on the Youth Development Commission in conjunction with the University of Chicago for ten years doing experimental programing in Quincy Schools. The work of the Commission has been published in book form for use of school teachers all over the United States.

Bernice was a charter member of the Quincy Charter Chapter ABWA (American - Business Women's Association) of which she served as president, secretary, and treasurer. She was also the editor of their monthly magazine, "The Bee" and had served as Chairman of the Educational Projects Committee. The ABWA voted her women of the year in 1971 and she was selected to appear in the 1971 edition of Personalities of the west and Midwest Copies of this book are placed in The Library of Congress and state libraries in the western and Midwestern States.

Mrs. Albers was first employed at Michelmann Steel Construction Company. She and her husband later managed the Hoener Glass Company while her brother, H.J. Hoener served in the Navy during WWII. In 1952 she was employed as secretary, book keeper, and salesperson at the Quincy Building Materials Company for thirty four years until her retirement in 1984.

Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Turek and her husband Robert W. of Quincy; a son, Neil Albers and his wife Lois of Green Valley, AZ.; five grandchildren, Jill Turek of Naperville, Dr. Jennifer Rasmussen and her husband Dane of Cedar Falls, IA., Julie Turek of Quincy, Jane Leenerts and her husband Randy of Irving, TX., and Peri Cole and her husband David of Quincy; and four great grandchildren, Alayna Rasmussen and Cayla Rasmussen, both of Cedar Falls, IA., and Emily Leenerts and Brooke Leenerts, both of Irving, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Harold Hoener.

Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Trinity United Church of Christ, 1930 South 24th, Quincy, by the Rev. Tim White. Private burial will take place at Quincy Memorial Park at a later date.

There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the memorial service.

Memorials may be made to Transitions, Trinity United Church of Christ, or Blessing Long Term Care.
