Irene J. (Johanssen) Daniels, 86, of Sandusky died Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her family, following a six month battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Sandusky and was a 1942 graduate of Sandusky High School. Irene was employed for 30 years at the former Waldock Packing Company, Sandusky, retiring in 1972. She also, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Bissell Auto Service for 42 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sandusky, where she was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, member of the women's auxiliary, honorary life member of Presbyterian Church Women, and served as the church financial secretary for 29 years. She was also a member of the Melody Makers Choir.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dean I. Daniels; two sons, Roger (Bonnie) Daniels of Port Clinton and David (Susan) Daniels of Madison, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emily (Hertlein) Johannsen; and a brother, Pearl Johanssen.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Kimberly Secrist Ashby will officiate. Burial will be in Milan Cemetery in Milan.
