John August Anderson was born on December 14, 1922 at Redfield, South Dakota to August Frederick and Lydia Rose (Huebner) Anderson. He grew up in the Redfield-Athol-Ashton area. John entered the US Army on November 22, 1944 and served until his discharge on July 20, 1946. He married Doreen Meehan March 29, 1945 at Watertown, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived at San Antonio, Texas where John was serving the US Army. After his discharge they returned to South Dakota to farm near Frankfort. They moved to Huron in 1952 when he began working for Armour and Company. He worked there until the company was sold at which time he retired. They were members of the Huron Rovers Camping Club and enjoyed traveling. John also collected toy tractors. He was member of the American Legion. He is survived by two daughters, Gayanne Anderson and her husband, Larry Morrissette, of Maple Grove, Minnesota;, and Mary Susan Berg, of Huron, one son Don and his wife, Pat Anderson, of Long Pine, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Charlotte, Ryan and his wife Lisa, and Paige; two step grandchildren Kurtis and Kraig; one great granddaughter Kryszian; one sister, Evelyn (Harold) Brodkorb of Huron; two brothers Fred (Peggy) Anderson, of Rockford, Ilinois and Frank "Bud" (Theresa) Anderson, of Jacksonville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, his wife, Doreen on November 7, 1995; an infant son, David John; and a daughter, Carolyn on Nov 28, 1969. Funeral services are Friday, December 3, 1999 at 2:00 PM at the Kuhler Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron South Dakota.
