James married Eunice Tucker, 7 Apr 1867 at Lockport (now called Platea). They had 3 children: Edward C.; Mary Amanda (Lyon); & William Nelson Smith.
James was a soldier in the Civil War. He served in the 4th Artillery stationed at Richmond, Petersburg and Ft. Monroe, VA during 1864 & 1865. We have a leather journal he kept during part of this period. We also have his discharge papers.
James & Eunice lived on a farm near Cherry Hill until they homesteaded in Woodward Co., OK. They were in OK 1901-1908. After they returned from OK, they purchased a home and 4 acres of land in Lockport (Platea).
