American Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Born in Rodney, Mississippi to Italian immigrants, Frank and Carmela Greco, he was educated at St. Joseph Seminary in Covington, Louisiana as well as the American University of Louvain and the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He was ordained into the priesthood in 1918. He served as Bishop of Alexandria, Louisiana from 1946 to 1973 and was the first Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, a position he held from 1961 until his death. Called, "a patriarch of the church in Louisiana" by Archbishop Hannan, who also said of him, "His indefatigable zeal, his dedication to priestly ministry, his universal concern for the well-being of all, were felt in many places in this state."
