G. H. Jakway Died Sunday
This community was saddened when it learned that G. H. Jakway, aged 90, had passed away Sunday morning at 5:30 o'clock. He was born Jan. 25, 1846 and was the first white child born in Belvidere, Ill. His parents were Geo. and Matilda Jakway. He came to Buffalo Grove, Iowa in 1863 and to Lamont in 1895. He was twice married, his first wife was Mary Freeman who died May 31, 1885. To this union were born four sons, George of No. Dak., Al and Alf deceased and Harry of Humbolt, Iowa. His second wife was Mary Ward and one son Ralph was born to this union, who died in young manhood. He leaves his aged wife, sons George and Harry, brother A. T. Jakway and sister Emma Jakway of Oelwein, half-sister Mrs. Martha Schofield of Strawberry Point. He was a member of Co. C. Iowa Voluntary Infantry and the last veteran in this community. Funeral services were held Tuesday p. m. at the M. E. church, Rev. Paul Pease in charge. Burial at Madison Center cemetery.
