James Madison Livingston was the husband of Josephine (Chamberlain) Livingston (1851-1948), who was the only daughter of James Chamberlain (1809-1889) and Sarah Runnels Barton (1824-1905) of Burnet Co., TX. He was born in SC, but later moved with his family to GA. During the Civil War, he served in the Confederate army, sustaining several serious wounds. After the conflict ended, he went to TX and worked for some time as a cattle driver on the Chisholm Trail. He eventually moved to Burnet Co., where he bought a farm and a cotton gin. He married Jo Chamberlain in 1871.
