Reuben Daggett b. 11 Nov 1755 Attleboro, Bristol County, Massachusetts m. 11 Dec 1777 (Westmoreland County, New Hampshire marriage record) Esther Cobb. Reuben served in the American Revolution in the State of Massachusetts. After the war resided Westmoreland, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Enumerated in Westmoreland in 1790 with one male of age sixteen and over (b. before 1774), two males under sixteen (b. 1775-90) and six females. They are related to have removed to Paris, Oneida County, New York in 1797 but are not found in the 1800 census enumeration. He is perhaps the Reuben Daggett enumerated in Cheshire in 1800 and the children match the known family except for the three daughters of age ten and under age sixteen, which the enumerator perhaps did not include. Esther d. 2 Dec 1798 age 48. Reuben is related to have m. 9 Dec 1800 at Utica, New York, Keziah Darby b. c. 1753. The Daggett family removed in 1805 (pension application) or 1807 to the Seeley Creek Valley (sometimes called Daggett Creek) in Jackson Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania near the county line of Bradford County. Reuben does not appear on the 1810 census. Sons, Reuben and Seth were enumerated in Oneida County, New York in 1810. If Reuben had removed to Pennsylvania he perhaps was missed in the census enumeration since their residence was on the county line of Lycoming (that portion that became Bradford) and Tioga Counties. Reuben appears on the first assessment of Tioga Township (Jackson not yet created) in 1812 with 131 acres, 2 oxen, 2 cows. Reuben appears on a special assessment of Tioga and Delmar Townships, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, dated 7 Oct 1814 when it was submitted to the commissioners of Tioga County. This was a special tax enumeration of the two townships that existed in the entire County at that date. Reuben Daggett, Rufus Daggett, Reuben Daggett, Jr., and Seth Dagget are listed. Reuben and his sons erected a saw mill on Seeley Creek. Enumerated in Jackson Township, Tioga County in 1820 with one male of age forty five and over (b. before 1775) and one female of age forty five and over (b. before 1775). Keziah d. 15 Mar 1827 age 73 Jackson Township, no marker. Reuben m. 31 May 1827 Abigail Woodard. An Oliver Woodard first appears on the 1826 assessment list of neighboring Wells Township in Bradford County and on the 1828 assessment list he transfered property to Jacob Stelle. Reuben enumerated in Wells Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1830 with one male of age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70) and one female of age sixty and under age seventy (b. 1761-70). Reuben applied for a pension 4 Sept 1832 (S29107) as a resident of Southport, Tioga County (Chemung County not yet formed), New York, aged 77 on the 11 Nov next. He was never a resident of Southport and other Revolutionary pension applicants near the state line and residing in Pennsylvania also stated they were New York residents as they were in closer proximity to Elmira to make pension claims versus Towanda or Wellsboro in Pennsylvania. Reuben stated he enlisted in June 1775 for the term of six months in the Massachusetts troops but before that term was up enlisted again for one year in the same regiment. He was mainly involved in the building of fortifications in the City of Boston. He stated he was born in Attleboro, County of Bristol and state of Massachusetts on the eleventh day of November 1755, that he entered the service at the place of his nativity and that since the war has resided in Westmoreland, County of Chesire, state of New Hampshire till he moved to the waters of Seely Creek in the town of Southport where he has lived for the space of twenty seven years. He signed as Reuben Dagget. Reuben was subscribed on the rolls of New York at the rate of $60 per annum to commence 4 Mar 1831. Reuben d. 8 Feb 1835 79y (ts) buried Daggett Family Cemetery on land where the family settled on a knoll west of Seeley Creek (also called Daggett Creek) near the Tioga and Bradford County line.

1. Rufus Daggett b. 24 Aug 1778 d. 2 Sept 1782.
2. Reuben Daggett, Jr., b. 19 Feb 1781.
3. Chloe Daggett b. 20 July 1783 m. Miller Vaughan.
4. Esther Daggett b. 26 Dec 1785 m. John Franklin.
5. Rhoda Daggett b. 8 Mar 1788.
6. Saloma Daggett (twin) b. 3 July 1790.
7. Seth Daggett (twin) b. 3 July 1790.
8. Rufus Daggett b. 3 Dec 1792.
9. Belinda Daggett b. 9 July 1795 m. James Cooper son of Richard Cooper, Revolutionary Soldier of Wells.
10. Lydia Daggett b. 16 Jan 1797 m. John Conable.

The Daggett Genealogy and many others have indicated that Rhoda Daggett b. 8 Mar 1788 m. 1 Jan 1809 in Windham, Vermont to Moses Bennett and died 16 Feb 1848 Vermont. This is unlikely, since the Daggett family never lived in Vermont and there would have been no known opportunity for Rhoda to be in Vermont to meet and marry someone and furthermore research has not found that the Bennett family ever lived in the vicinity of the Daggett family.

Inscription

Reuben
Daggett,
died Feb. 8,
31, 1835
AE. 79 Y.

Inscription: Reuben Daggett d. Feb. 8, 31, 1835 AE. 79Y. (this is how the memorial marker appears with two days, the 8th and the 31st apearing. Feb has been recut and evidently the marker was incorrect. It would almost appear that the same date of death as Rufus Daggett was inscribed and then corrected).
