Miriam Hapgood DeWitt, 84, a former Washingtonian who was an artist and writer, died of pulmonary failure April 16 at a hospital in Boston.
Mrs. DeWitt was born in Italy of American parents. She grew up in New York and Provincetown, Mass.
In 1945, she moved to the Washington area from Taos, N.M., and worked briefly for the Office of Price Administration, the Foreign Economic Administration and the White House, where she answered correspondence.
She was a professional artist and her paintings were displayed and sold at galleries in this area.
In 1979, Mrs. DeWitt moved to Provincetown. She wrote periodically for the Provincetown Gazette newspaper.
Her marriage to Edward Bright ended in divorce and her second husband, Vaso Trivananovich, died about 40 years ago. Her marriage to John DeWitt ended in divorce.
Survivors include two sons of her first marriage, Edward Bright of Washington and London and Timothy Bright of Provincetown, a sister and a granddaughter.
