He is the son of John Harvey Wright, Sr and Ruth Celestia Parkhill.

He first married in 1934 to Frances Elizabeth Brown. After her death, he married in Gertrude May Vanderhoof. They had 7 children. Only 2 survived to adulthood after a tragic accident.

He then married Elizabeth May Peters. They had 5 known children.
