Minnie Lee Burke, the daughter of Louis Thomas Burke "Luke" and Martha Linnie Stone Burke. Minnie's parents were born in nearby Irwin County, later Coffee County Georgia, and lived near Ambrose. Minnie Lee's maternal grandparents were James Jackson Stone, and Angeline Jowers Stone. Angeline was from Williston Barnwell District, South Carolina. She is buried at New Hope Church in Ambrose, Coffee County Georgia.
Minnie and her husband Joe had 10 children, with 9 surviving to adulthood. They are Mattie Lee McLeod (died in childhood), Linnie O'Kella McLeod Waters (J.L. Waters, original spouse), Ivey Elmer McLeod (Irma Tyre (1) Mary Myrtice "Myrt" Leggett (2)), Willie Luther McLeod (Lucille Batten), Lessie McLeod Byrd (Rupert Leroy Byrd), Ruby McLeod Perry (John Perry), James Pleasant McLeod (Bernice Thornton (1) Queechie Williams (2)), Dewey McLeod (Doris Arnold (1) Hilda Perry (2), Lola McLeod O'Quinn Taylor (Vernon William O'Quinn (1), Vance Butler (2) Johnny Taylor (3), and Jessie McLeod (Ethel Bullard).
They lived until her death, on a small farm given to them by and adjacent to Minnie's parents, at the intersection of Fire Tower Road, and John Herndon Road, Surrency Georgia, on land owned by their descendants.

Minnie, her Burke ancestors, and her children, enjoyed humor (sometimes wickedly inappropriate) that continues to the day. One example is: When Minnie and Joe's daughter Lessie ran away from home to get married, heartbroken Minnie went next door to the home of Minnie's parents, where she proceeded to moan, cry, and carry on with dramatic flair, saying "I want to die, I just wanna die". Eventually she took a break from her hysteria and said: "Momma, get me a B.C. Powder for my headache and heartache". Minnie's mom Linnie's salty retort was "Poor Minnie, she wants to die, but she wants to die easy". Cousin Myrtice Anderson Stancil, who was there that day, often told this funny story to Minnie's younger descendants.

It is not an uncommon sentiment and seems to run in the blood of the Irish Burke family.
