Joe Thomas Fletcher of Chula, a former member of the Irwin County Board of Commissioners for eight years, died Monday in Tift General Hospital. Funeral services were held in Eureka Primitive Baptist Church and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born June 25, 1906 in Irwin County, Mr. Fletcher, a retired farmer, was a son of the late Henry T. and Una Jane Young Fletcher. A member of the Eureka Primitive Baptist Church where he was a deacon, he had lived in Tift and Irwin counties all of his life.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret Brown Fletcher, of Chula; two sons: Gerald Fletcher and Joseph Fletcher, both of Chula; two daughters: Mrs. Mildred Byrge of Niceville, Florida and Mrs. Sara Jones of Chula; three brothers: William Fletcher of Winchester, VA., Robert Fletcher of West Green, GA., and Huey Fletcher of Chula; three sisters: Mrs. Polly Daniels of Fitzgerald, Mrs. Martha Drexler of Tifton, and Mrs. Stella Metz of Naylor; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
